Dear Reader, 
There has been an interesting turn of events in the Maxey-Martin "debate."  Big Al has terminated the debate because I am too slow in responding to him.  As anyone knows, "speed chess" will ruin a world-class player.  The real chess players are slow and deliberate.  Big Al wants to play the "speed debate" and since I have slowed the pace, he has decided the match is over.  Well, I didn't realize there was a time limit.  As usual the Campbellites always set the rules and apply them in their favor and decide when the game is "over."  Big Al has "called the match" for "delay of game."  

The following exchange (which you will not find on his site as of this writing) brought about his termination of the "debate."  Big Al continues to hide behind his fake "godliness" and false "humility."  He has called the war off, and claimed victory.  Here is the exchange. (My comments will be after my initials, DM).  As they say on FOX news: "We report, you decide."

(DM: in previous e-mails I had told him I should have his stuff posted on our web site by the end of September. Well, didn't get it there until two weeks later. Tsk, tsk.) Excellent. I shall inform the several people who were becoming concerned that you were not a man of your word. They will be pleased.  I also look forward to our continued dialogue.  It appears THAT has fallen off, as well.  I posed several questions and challenges on there, and asked for some response to various Scriptures.  I notice you have continued to ignore those questions and challenges.  I pray that you will soon be "led of God" to defend your beliefs.  Have a great day, David. - Al Maxey, Still willing to defend the Word ..... are YOU?!!

2. Brother Martin to Big Al Maxey (5 Sep 2002) 

Al, Trying to provoke me, eh?  Well, I must say, the "wolf's teeth" are showing, Al, from behind your "sheep's clothing."  What happened to your seeming humility?  You question my integrity, and you may do so all you want, but that will not hasten my responses.  The Lord knows my heart and yours.  The judgment will bring it all to light. What a day that will be. I'm ready for it, are you? (1 John 4:17).  My priority in life is to witness for Christ and win souls to Him.  As I visit several times a week for that purpose, among other things, that takes time and precedence over debating you or anyone else. 3.  Big Al Maxey to Brother Martin (5 Sep 2002) Good Evening David, You wrote: Trying to provoke me, eh?  Only into a dialogue concerning God's holy Word, David ... something you seem somehow very reluctant to do.  YOU are the one who made the charges against the churches of Christ.  Now, when a leader in this group stands up to you with an open Bible in his hands, you are suddenly "too busy" to defend your many assertions.  Yes, David, I AM trying to provoke you ....provoke you into being accountable for your accusations; provoke you into serious study of Scripture pertaining to the very issues about which you have previously appeared so confident (but now seem to want to flee from). Then I have my answer.  Others have used this same excuse in order to try and evade their responsibility.  I too am a busy man, David.  I'll put MY schedule for the Lord up against YOURS any day of the week.  However, nothing will stand in MY way of ALWAYS being ready to make a defense unto EVERYONE who asks me to give an account for the hope that is within me.  Heaven is too precious and Hell too horrible for me to DELAY for even a moment when precious, priceless souls hang in the balance.  NOW is the day of salvation, David, thus if you consider me lost (and leading others unto destruction) then how can you bear to delay even a second in seeking to enlighten me and thus perhaps save countless souls?!! Sorry, David, your protestations are hollow, and we both know it.  Thus, I shall proceed with my plans to make our exchange (what little you were dragged into providing) available to as many people in your area of the country as I can find addresses for (as well as other parts of the country, and to all the major Baptist and Church of Christ publications I can find).  I shall also do my best to get this out on the search engines on the Web so that others may come across it easily.  In short, I shall begin to make our exchange public to as many people in the world as I possibly can.  Since YOU won't defend your accusations against the churches of Christ, nor will you honor your word and place a link to it on YOUR site (which would only take about 30 seconds to do), {webmaster's note:  For the record, Brother David DID put in a request to have the link put up a good while ago, however, his webmaster is not always lighting fast.  Had I known my delay was going to result in the tarnishing of Brother David's reputation I would have acted upon his request much faster.} I shall now proceed to make my response to you known far and wide.  I shall also make a note on the web site that you have been repeatedly approached to defend your ludicrous assertions and accusations, but you were just "too busy" to waste your time on such an endeavor. I will continue to pray for your soul, David.  May God have mercy on you!!! And perhaps you will think twice before you ever again try to "take on" an entire group of believers and then refuse to defend yourself when they challenge your absurdities. - Al Maxey 

4. Brother Martin to Big Al Maxey (9 Sep 2002) 

Dear "Slanderer,"  Your web site has this on it: "After repeated attempts to encourage David Martin to continue with the dialogue, he has indicated he is just too busy to defend the assertions & accusations he has publicly made against the Churches of Christ, and he condemned Al Maxey as a wolf in sheep's clothing. Thus, due to a refusal to respond to legitimate challenges, the dialogue, sadly, has been terminated. Pastor Martin also promised to link this discussion to his web page.  After repeated appeals for him to honor his word, that promise has yet to be kept.  Will it ever be?!"  (DM: this was as it read the morning of Sept. 9, 2002).  
Al, you are such a liar.  I did not terminate this debate -- you did.  I said that my ministry takes precedence over you.  You took that to mean the debate is over in your mind, which is incorrect.  I suppose in your demented religious pride that when someone tells you that you are not on the top of the list, you consider that "termination" because you have no patience,  which is a fruit of the Holy Spirit you do not have since you "have not the Holy Spirit," but are fleshly and lost (Jude 1:19; Prov. 18:1,2; Romans 8:9).  You are just "too big for your britches" and "puffed up with your own self-importance. "Humility is not part of your constitution, Al.  Again, you are a slanderer (characteristic of all children of the devil - John 8:44), for implying that I have terminated the debate.  YOU have done that by your silly, asinine assertions.  Do you feel BIG now, Al?  As ALL COC preachers, no matter how you try to "help" and act humble, eventually the JERK in you all comes out.  Oh, yeah!  And the wolf's fangs, too.  Does this mean that any further correspondence from me will not be posted as you have "sadly" terminated the debate?  I suspect that you are as much a liar as you falsely insinuate that  I am.  Oh, well.  They lied about Jesus and Paul, too, so you have put me in good company.  Thank you.  See you at the judgment. -  Brother Martin

5. Brother Martin's most current comment as of the evening of September 9, 2002: The latest update to Big Al's web page has this note, after receiving my rebuke (which is the previous e-mail above).  Notice that he does not publicly address or answer my question if the debate is over and will no longer be posted.  From the following it seems he has terminated the debate AFTER implying that it was I who did so in his e-mails. 

"After repeated attempts to encourage David Martin to continue with the dialogue, he has indicated he is just too busy to defend the assertions & accusations he has publicly made against the Churches of Christ.  "Further, his attitude once again has turned hateful and slanderous toward me and the churches of Christ. He accused me of being a liar who does not have the Holy Spirit and who is thus "fleshly and lost."  I was called a slanderer, a child of the devil, and a wolf in sheep's clothing.  David wrote, "As ALL CofC preachers, no matter how you try to 'help' them and act humble, eventually the JERK in you all comes out.  Oh, yeah! And the wolf's fangs, too.  You really are a 'waste of time.'  Thanks again for the free publicity."

"As a result of his nonresponsiveness, and also his godless characterizations and comments, I sadly must shake the dust from my feet and acknowledge that David is simply not interested in Truth, but merely in promoting his hatred for "Campbellites." I ask the readers to please keep this man in your prayers that God may heal his heart and lead him to Truth!"
