Dave Martin, an independent/fundamental Baptist pastor, and various so-called "Church of Christ" ministers and members. These are responses & conversations elicited from our article, "Common Sense Questions" for Church of Christ preachers, posted on our church web site and also on the http://www.biblebelievers.com website.
The
title of this section, "Water Dog Fights," is meant as a pun.
This is how we came up with the title. The Bible speaks of false prophets &
teachers who add works to salvation by grace as "dogs" (Philippians
3:2; 2 Peter 2:1, 22). The Lord Jesus Christ also referred to false prophets as
"wolves" in Matthew 7:15 (and wolves are members of the dog family).
Since we believe that the so-called "Church of Christ" preaches a
perverted gospel, we consider them one of the many breeds of "dogs" (false
prophets, false teachers, gospel perverts) in the religious world today.
What about the water? Well, no doubt you have participated in a few "water
pistol fights" in your days where you win by soaking the other guy more
than he does you. Because the crux of the Baptist/"Church of Christ"
debate is over the necessity of water baptism as a requirement for salvation,
and just like a good Labrador retriever dog "Church of Christ" folk
are always sniffing for water, I thought it apropos to title this section:
"Water Dog Fights!"
So everybody come
on in. The water's fine!
